wonder & wander

I recently found a new passion for running, on trails - loving it for many reasons. The parallels to life & leadership are real, for sure.

For example, today I got lost on the trail. Legit - had no clue where I was or which way to go. Reflecting on my morning, I am not surprised….my mind has been racing since waking up. A reinforcing feedback loop of everything I need to do this week - work stuff, family stuff, all the stuff jumbled together. So much so, that I attempted to hand write a to do list to help quiet my mind. It didn't work - even the list was all over the place. So I changed course, put on my trusted Hoka GTX's, and sought serenity on the trail. No go. About 25 minutes into my run, I looked up and realized I was totally lost. Nothing around me looked familiar, at all.

Decision point. Instead of being concerned and trying to find the fastest path home, I chose to be curious. If I keep going up the path, where will it take me? How high up does this go? Are there even trails up there? What is up there?  And I wonder what the view looks like….

Turns out, on a chilly Monday morning at one of the hidden peaks of the Blue Hills, serenity does exist. It's crazy beautiful. It's refreshingly clear. And the horizon is infinite. In that moment, the only thought running through my mind was that this, right here, is exactly what I needed this morning.

Wonder & wander. Many times, you'll find the very thing you need is on the trail you never knew existed.
